Valley--June 2001 We asked,
"What do the contents of your purse say about you?" By:
Heather Wax Some of
the most powerful women in the valley are looking over their shoulders.
It's happening at the San Jose Repertory Theatre, KNTV and Alen Pinel
Realtors. Perhaps it's to find out the latest offering from Chanel
(Carole Rodoni's purse maker of choice). Its'
partly our fault. We set these women up in a game of corporate
bag-stabbing--asking them to let us peek in their purses so we could compare
just what it is they wont leave home without. Voyeurism gone too
far? Perhaps. After all, these women didn't offer themselves up to
be stuck on some island or in the Australian outback like Survivor
castaways--but then again, their supplies aren't just limited to just one
luxury item. The all
seemed to have ditched prissy purses for something more, well, practical, or at
the very least, roomy enough to tote all their on-the-town essentials.
Everyday they have to decide just what to pack to make it through a day that
can be just as harrowing as the Goshen Station cattle ranch. So while
these busy women turned them over and dumped them out, we took note. Alliances?
You bet, if only with the designer of a trusty shoulder bag. Who
shoulders it: Hanna Shacham Where she takes it: Colwell banker
offices. She was top Coldwell Banker agent in Silicon Valley County in
2000, and ranked one of the top six agents in the country. What she
takes when she talks properties: Six of her business cards, a list of
nine names whose calls she has to return today, credit card, driver's license,
three family photographs, two keys for properties she's currently listing, YMCA
membership card, two pens, a small size cellular, $37.25 in cash, checkbook,
stick-it pad, sunglasses, two stubs from concert tickets (from the previous
day) and an RSVP card for a friend's bar mitzvah (she needed to send it out
that day). What her
purse says about her: "Time is precious so I'm trying to stay
focused on what needs to be done. Doing business right and efficiently,
and balancing work, family and friends are my most important goals." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
